Use a Spell from Harry Potter to Interrupt Your Negative Inner Talk, and Another Trick or Two
Even if you are in a good place in your life right now, you might let others’ words and your own thoughts steal your joy. It’s time to stop this insanity!
How much do your negative thoughts impact your enjoyment of life?
When we let them roam free, they make 70 to 80% of our 50,000 thoughts a day. Most of them are repetitive. Sometimes, they are words said to us in the past that we have internalised and made our own, sometimes they are the product of images of perfection and success made-up by the media and social media.
Negative thoughts are not only conducive to anxiety, low self-worth or depression, they also limit your ability to reach your potential. The more harmful aspect of negative inner-talk is the tendency to generalize and lock you into a false image of yourself. For instance, we say things like:
- I’m not good at …
- I will never be able to …
- I can’t …
- I’ve never been good at …
Because we repeat play the negative tapes in our head so often, they become limiting beliefs about ourselves, rules of our life. That’s how we end up like the elephant that could easily break its chain but doesn’t even try…
