Those Two Obstacles Will Knock You Off Your Path If You Don’t Pay Attention
Just like the wind that requires a plane to constantly course-correct, timidity and convenience will require you to course-correct to stay on your path.
There are two obstacles that will knock you off your path if you don’t pay attention and they are often overseen: convenience and timidity.
Convenience
Convenience is dreadfully appealing but it will hold us back from doing our important work.
It’s convenient to say yes when we mean to say no, to opt for comfort rather than the harder alternative, to carry on after a bad decision instead of admitting our mistake and forsaking the loss. It’s easier to ignore that inner voice’s warning when the world is pulling us towards a well-trodden path. It is more convenient to relax in the evening than to find the strength to learn new skills or work on a side business. It’s not laziness, it’s self-preservation.
Our brain, always on the lookout to save energy, will rather choose what is familiar. Convenience is its default setting, not a choice we necessarily make consciously. However, convenience is a major obstacle to achieving our goals.
